Lot 4085 COLT MODEL ONE 1855 ROOT REVOLVER.

Cal. 28. S# 21. Bbl 3 7/16" octagon with brass bead front sight. Top flat is marked "COLT'S PATENT". 5-shot round cylinder with cabin and Indian scene roll engraving. Action features a side hammer, spur trigger, octagon loading lever and 1/2" capping groove on right recoil shield. 1-piece walnut grip. Approx. 40,000 Root revolvers were manufactured 1855-1870. Model 1A is found in S# range 1 - 384. CONDITION: metal has faded to gray showing handling marks and spots of corrosion. Cylinder retains some lightly visible scene. Grips have added varnish over handling marks with small chips and cracks. Sound action. Bore retains strong rifling showing very light pitting. (01-28518/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
